Welcome to ESL

Hello! My name is Admirith Caicedo and I am the ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher at Belleville School #3.  I absolutely LOVE my job and believe I have chosen the most rewarding career!

I will start off by telling you a little about myself.  Most importantly, I am a mom of two beautiful boys.  Being a mom has been my greatest accomplishment!  I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Sociology from William Paterson University.  Immediately after, I obtained a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Nova Southeastern University.  Finally, I obtained a certification in English as a Second Language from Jersey City University.  I am bilingual.  I speak Spanish and English.  This is my 16th year teaching in the Belleville school district.  I have 8 years of experience as a classroom teacher teaching grades 4 and 2.

As an ESL teacher, I will be focusing on the 4 domains of language proficiency (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) throughout the school year.  Research shows that it is vitally important for children to have a good start in reading.  Reading is the key to success at school and in life.  You are your child's first and best teacher, what you do at home and even before your child goes to school is what will help him or her become a skilled and confident reader.  So what can you do at home?
Here are 6 simple things you can work on at home:

1.  Let your child know that you believe in them
2.  Talk, sing, and read to your child
3.  Involve your extended family to encourage your child to do well in school
4.  Limit your child's TV and electronics time
5.  Have a positive attitude towards school
6.  Make sure your child does homework

If you or your child are more comfortable with another language, then I encourage you to sing, talk, and read with your child in that language.  This will help build your child's speaking, listening, and understanding skills.  These skills will later help him or her to speak and read in English.

I look forward to working with your child this school year and I can't wait to see what this year brings!  If you should have any questions the best way to reach me is by calling School #3 and leaving me a message.  I will return your call within 24 hours.

Sincerely,
Admirith Caicedo
