Library/Media Specialist

Hi, Welcome to the School #3 Library Webpage.

I am your child’s library/media specialist. I have been an educator for the past 17 years and have been a Library/Media Specialist in Belleville for the past eleven years. I received both a Bachelors of Arts degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in English Writing and a Master’s of Education in Elementary Education with a concentration in library media from William Paterson University.
Our school's library media program supports early literacy skills and hopes to instill a love of reading in our students, which is the foundation to all learning. Additionally, our library program helps your child to develop essential information literacy skills that are a necessity for their future development. The 21st Century's child needs to learn and have the ability to locate, evaluate, synthesize, and communicate information.  New to our library program this year are the library makerspaces, where the students are learning about 21st Century careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematic fields.  They are working collaboratively with their peers in S.T.E.A.M. based centers.  The 21st Century Skills they are learning include:  Creativity and Innovation, Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, ICT (Information, Communications and Technology) Literacy, Information Literacy, Media Literacy, Life and Career Skills, and Communication and Collaboration through project/problem based learning.
I ask you to partner with me and your child's teacher in ensuring that we prepare your child for this very fast pace environment. Throughout the year, I will be introducing your child to various computer programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and several educational websites. If a computer is available please let them practice these skills. If a computer is not available, it would be very helpful for them to visit the Belleville Public Library.
This year, School Three continues to offer your child the Scholastic Bookflix reading program, where your child is able to read their favorite storybooks on any computer, tablet, or Smartphone that has an Internet connection. Additionally, the Bookflix program offers age appropriate websites that extend your child's learning.
